“If you make it through July without giving up, you know you really love it.” ๐ โ I can’t remember where I heard this (or if these were the exact words), but I think of it every year. June and July are always exhausting (way beyond any other month of the year for me). Then August rolls around and things suddenly break. Lambs are weaned and on their feet, it’s easier to breath, and I find myself making plans for the next season โ That’s where I’m at this month and it feels so good. Here’s a look at what is happening behind the scenes!
Right now I am prepping the flock for breeding. I join my flock in September for lambs in Feb/Mar. (Click here for a 17min video on my breeding prep) โ Prep involves shoring up body condition and mineral deficiencies, in addition to making sure worms are under control. โ Again, check out this video for a deeper dive on breeding prep!
I keep a handful of goats for personal use (dairy). โ This month I made them do yard-work for me. I was pretty impressed (and glad to retire the weed-eater for a few weeks)!
