Our closed flock of commercial Dorper sheep is rotationally grazed on our 80 acre farm in NW San Saba County, Texas. For the last 10 years, we have selectively bred for parasite resistance, native grass based, multiple births, good mothering ability, conformation, and ease of lambing. We are in a very arid locale and our sheep thrive on the native pecan-bottom pastures and woodland ridge lines found here. They are supplemented year round with free-choice loose minerals, good quality coastal round bales in the winter, and the ewes with lambs get a lick tub once the lambs arrive. Our ewes lamb on pasture and raise their lambs on the rolling pecan-bottom native fields, under the watchful eyes of several Livestock Protection Dogs. Shelter from mother nature’s elements is provided by a few “hoop houses.” We do not utilize herbicides or commercial fertilizer. Instead, we no-till drill cover crops once or twice a year in the resting pastures to help mother nature along. We do not band tails or testicles. Our ram lambs are marketed to a select customer base as breeding seed stock and as locker lambs, and we keep most / many of our replacement ewe lambs.
