I have been doing sheep for just a few years. I bought my starter flock from Manheim, Pennsylvania. The farm there culled real hard for parasite resistance and all his sheep had the OPP resistance gene. He has been doing sheep for 10 years and he has found that the ones with that gene last longer and are overall healthier sheep. So far I have had practically no problems with parasites, hoof rot, or any other health issues. I did loose a few sheep to coyotes and most of my first lamb crop to buzzards. We hope and pray the futures is different. My goal of this farm is to raise healthy sheep for selling breeding stock or for any person who wants to fill their freezers with lamb meat. I want to do what I can to improve and maintain the Katahdin breed.
