At Counter Culture Farms, we raise sheep and cows with nature rather than against her. Our ranch is situated on river bottom land encompassed by the Attoyac River in Center, TX. In this wet, humid, sub-tropical environment, only the strong survive. If you truly want parasite resistant sheep with no help or pampering, you’ve come to the right place. We approach land stewardship with the whole ecosystem in mind including soil, livestock, humans, wildlife, water, and earth. We rotate our animals frequently in large mobs to mimic the wild herds that once roamed these lands. The livestock are then moved to fresh paddocks while the land regenerates, and once the the land and forage have fully recovered, the animals graze it again to encourage deeper roots and more diverse abundance across the landscape.
No Grain • No Poison
We feed ZERO grain. We use ZERO dewormer. We use ZERO shots. We use ZERO fly spray. Our animals get mothers milk and the forage that is produced on our land. We do not use any protein lick tubs or grain by-products. Our animals get mothers milk and the forage we raise on our land. They do get redmonds salt free choice when we take the time to put it out. This is not often. They are often without it for weeks or months at a time.

We stockpile forages in the fall and graze them as long as we can through the winter. When stockpile runs out, we feed hay that we raise. We use ZERO chemical fertilizer, ZERO herbicides, and ZERO pesticides on our land. We also have diverse pastures with a large variety of different forages such as grasses, legumes, flowers, shrubs, and trees. We also plant spring/summer and fall/winter cover crops to help with drought periods, to extend our grazing seasons, and to offer our animals top notch nutrition. All of the cover crop seed we use is raw and untreated seed that has ZERO pesticide or fungicide coating.
The sheep we raise are out of a flock that was started about 30yrs ago and has been bred specifically for parasite resistance, mothering capability, high twinning rates, good carcass, hardiness, strong lambs with the will to survive, and more. This flock is a composite breed of hair sheep utilizing the best traits from each breed Dorper x Katahdin x Florida Native. Our ewes must lamb each year without any assistance or they are culled. All culls go to the sale barn or the freezer, no exceptions. Ewe lambs must breed at ~7-8 months old and lamb as a 1 yr old. They must raise quality lambs and continue to breed and lamb unassisted and on schedule each year after that or they are culled from the flock. This is a no nonsense flock bred and selected to be hands off. They must do their job or else they do not get to stay.
